In the 19th century, the building suffered two major fires (1877 and 1899), leaving only the walls standing. The reconstruction work after the fires and the major renovation in 1985 led to this monumental theater being inaugurated up to four times.

The Teatro Romea is located in Murcia city. This theater was opened by Queen Elizabeth II on October 25, 1862. Julian Romea was also an attending guest. Later the Colosseum was named after him. The building was first called the Teatro de los Infantes, but after the revolution of 1868 it was changed to Teatro Popular Sovereignty. A few years later, in 1877, the Colosseum suffered a major fire. This was not the last fire to destroy the beautiful building. In 1899 the theater was again hit by fire. After its opening in 1901, it was renovated several times. The Colosseum as it stands today was last renovated in 2012. The renovation has made it available for even more occasions. You can enjoy theater, dance, music, concerts, flamenco, zarzuela and other fun performances. Not only the outside of the building is impressive, but the inside is also breathtaking.
