Non-oriented church in uniform neoclassical style, in the middle of the village and surrounded by a tree-lined park with a war memorial, replacing the former cemetery.

The date of foundation is unknown, but the oldest document goes up to 1179 when Balduinus gives the patronage to the bishop of Tournai who transfers it to St. Peter's Abbey in Ghent. The later, single-aisled Gothic church was thoroughly restored under Pastor Gilbau from 1654 to 1670 and expanded in 1737 under Pastor De Bels into a three-aisled church of four bays while retaining the Gothic choir. Pastor Bonnarens had the church extended again in 1842 with two bays after a design by architect Louis Serrure (Antwerp). A short time later, in 1865-69, the house of worship was once again thoroughly modified and expanded after a design by architect Edmond de Perre-Montigny (Ghent). The originally correctly oriented church space was, as it were, turned around: the Gothic choir was demolished and replaced by two bays plus an entrance bay with a stone tower, the rood screen was extended by one bay and three-sided apse and thus transformed into a choir. After the Second World War, the damage was recorded by architect Wymeersch (Beveren). From 1975 to 1978 the church was restored under the direction of architect J. Franssens (Kallo).
