St. John's Church is the oldest building in the 1000-year-old town of Barby. It is an early Gothic quarry stone building, the outer masonry of which was exposed during the last extensive construction work in the 30s of the last century. It is certain that it was built in the middle of the 13th century as a Franciscan monastery church under the rule of the Barby Count Burkart II.
