Independencia (also: Colonia Independencia) is a district in the department of Guairá and a German-speaking colony in Paraguay with about 27,000 inhabitants. Independencia was founded in 1919 by winemakers from Baden, and was long a large wine-growing region.
With the Centro Educativo Independencia, locally known as the "German School", there is a private higher education institution in Independencia for about 140 students who can graduate at the end of schooling a humanistic Abitur (Bachillerato Humanístico).
