For over 500 years, Waldkirchen has had its own city wall to make the city really defensive against enemy attacks. Around 1460, these enemies consisted of an old Bohemian noble family. The Kaplirz de Sulewicz repeatedly invaded the territory of Prince-Bishop Ulrich von Nussdorf. However, he did not want to rest on his fortress in Passau, but wanted to take action. In order to be able to counter the looting and pillaging of the Hussites from Bohemia, he had a castle built with a large ring wall. From 1470 onwards, the entire area could be defended here with defensive towers, cannons and the many soldiers stationed there. The fortress was named Waldkirchen, and fortunately a good part of the ring wall has been preserved to this day.
