Anyone who has decided to visit the various waterfalls in the Harz Mountains should definitely start with the Selkefall. This small waterfall is located near the federal highway 185, which leads from Mägdesprung to Alexisbad. It was built around 1830 as part of the construction work on "Carls Teich", which supplied the ironworks in Mägdesprung with process water. The water management systems were destroyed by a flood in July 1955. What was left was the natural-looking Selkefall.
The Selkefall can be seen from the street. However, you have to get out of your vehicle and walk a bit to get directly to the waterfall. There, the water of the Selke plunges in several cascades about four meters into the depth. This place is ideal for hikers to take a short break. The Selkefall looks particularly impressive in winter, when the water rushes under the ice and only appears in a few places.
After you have left the Selkefall, you may also have developed an interest in the other Harz waterfalls and wish to visit them too. You will find that all the other waterfalls are in every way larger and more impressive than the Selke falls. Above all, the artificially created ones such as the Radaufall can almost magically attract the eyes with their majestic appearance.

Kerniger singletrack leads from Alexisbad after Mägdesprung along the railway line of the Selketalbahn. Many roots and stones make the way exciting. On the half is the Selkefall. Worth seeing in every season. Since you have to cross the tracks three times, you should not neglect the train traffic. But the steam locomotives are not to be overlooked
