The Magdeburg Tower, together with the Hallesches Turm, is the only structurally significant relic of the medieval city fortifications.

In 1562, the tower that is still standing was built on the foundations of its predecessor. The six-storey late Gothic building has a square floor plan. In 1784, a Welsh hood with a slate ceiling was put on him.

In terms of urban planning, the tower is located at the entrance to the old town and as a "point de vue" for Magdeburger Straße, which is approaching from the south.

The square around the Magdeburg Tower was redesigned as a homeopathic resting place as part of the IBA urban redevelopment 2010.
