Many small ponds have been created here as a result of stone quarrying. Information boards explain the origin and the special features of the geological formations.
During our hike, however, all signs and notices were unfortunately badly damaged by graffiti. Unfortunately, this is often seen in our area!

Geological peculiarities can be discovered in Velpker Switzerland. On the western bank of the so-called “Kuhloch” there is a 100 square meter cliff two meters above the water level. On this plateau there are very well-preserved traces of the last ice age about 200,000 years ago: the glacier scrapes. They represent a unique historical feature in Lower Saxony and are under nature protection. Visitors can use them to recognize the direction in which the ice has advanced and later retreated.
