The Europa Canal, built between 1972 and 1978, is also the lock canal of the Regensburg lock in the area of the city of Regensburg for the federal waterway Danube, which is impounded in the city area. From the construction period of the canal between 1960 and 1992, the name Rhein-Main-Danube Canal has been retained for the canal.
