Nice view from the remains of the castle ruins. The well-preserved part is privately owned, from the accessible part of the former castle only the remains of the wall are left. Mörnsheim Castle was founded at the peak of castle building around 1225, towards the end of the Staufer period. In 1281, after extensive expansion, the castle was called castrum Mornsheim.

Access to the castle at your own risk, you can drive up to the garden door of the residential building at the castle ruins, but there are few parking spaces for bikes. Stairs and a narrow path lead to the ruins with a good view of Mörnsheim (Gailachtal) Altendorf and the Altmühltal.

Some areas of the Mörnsheim castle ruins can be visited, but not by bike. Down at the end of the street you can cycle up a short, steep path to the garden door of the Ritter family. From there, a few stairs and a short walk lead to the castle ruins, which are still open to the public. However, enter at your own risk.
