This winter, for the fourth time, the light spectacle will take place on the Millicher Halde in Hückelhoven. But there is also criticism of this decision.
RP: The implementation of the light park on the Millicher Halde is not always welcomed. Even if Mayor Bernd Jansen emphasizes that the city administration has added value for the city of Hückelhoven, the residents and the region in the event, some citizens consider it to be the wrong signal to offer an elaborate light installation in these times. The Freidenkerschaft Hückelhoven has also launched a petition against the heap magic. “The Millicher Halde is one of the last retreats for many animals in the region. Not only deer and native bird species (birds of prey) as well as other creatures find their retreat here. The so-called Heap Spell is a catastrophic intrusion into this retreat. The noise caused and the light effects that last for hours irritate and drive away the local wildlife,” the freethinkers write in their justification. So far, however, the response has been limited.
