The Fresenturm is the only preserved tower of the younger, southern city fortifications made of light-colored quarry stone. The name (Freßendurn 1546) should be interpreted dialect as frightening and possibly indicates its use as a prison. The tower was used by the marksmen of the Sebastianus brotherhood in the 18th century to set up the bird perch because of the nearby shooting range.
