NSG Mastbruch & Mastbruchteich (near Dortmund-Westerfilde)

Near the crossing on the A45 at Westerfilde lies the Mastbruchteich, a lake surrounded on all sides by forest, on which one can catch a glimpse of some places. Anyone traveling on quiet hiking trails and having patience, reports a friendly local resident, can observe all sorts of birds here.

Depending on the season, many water birds can be seen and the Rahmer forest is a nice destination for hiking

Incidentally, the Mastbruchteich was only created in the 1940s as a result of subsidence.

And why is it called that? The residents of Schloss Westhusen used to fatten their pigs in the fattening room. Up to 100 domestic pigs have been looking for food here.
