The approximately 250 meter long historical ravine is part of the old Hammerweg on which iron ore and the products of the hammer mill were transported up and down the mountain.
There were already traffic rules when driving on sunken roads. They were necessary because the ravines were not very wide. On most routes, two carts could not pass side by side. So anyone who wanted to drive into a ravine had to make themselves known by whistling loudly or cracking a whip, otherwise it could happen that the newly entered vehicle had to harness his draft animals and drive out of the ravine again.Recently, the ravines on the Böckershammer have been threatened by mountain bikers, who use the hilly terrain structure as ski jumps and ramps and destroy parts of the archaeological monument through excavations and profiling of racetracks.
