The Bous a la Mar statue was created by Toni Marí in 1998 and represents the festival of the same name in Dénia, which has been celebrated since 1926 and takes place every summer.
For this purpose, a rectangular area is being built in the port of Dénia, which is open to the water side. There are well-attended spectator stands all around.
Now bulls are driven into the "arena" and "hobby toreros" try to drive the animals into the water without falling into the water themselves.

Statue in honor of the Bous a la MarBous a la Mar (English: "Bulls into the Sea") is an event that takes place every year as part of the "Santísima Sangre" festival in the city of Dénia in Spain (province of Alicante). "Bous a la mar" has been around since 1926 and was incorporated into the patron saint's festivals as a joke. The young bulls are driven one by one along the Marqués de Campo avenue into a rectangular bullring that is set up on the dock especially for this event. One side of the arena, however, does not border the spectator stands. It is open to the Mediterranean. While amateur bullfighters in swimming shorts try to drive the animals towards the harbor basin in the bullring and often fall into the water themselves, numerous spectators sit in the stands and watch. If an animal holds out for a certain amount of time, it is pardoned.
