The great western termination of the infamous Aonach Eagach ridge, Sgorr nam Fiannaidh is a marvellous Munro summit that towers above the village of Glencoe. Hikes to Sgorr nam Fiannaidh can either encompass the classic traverse of the Aonach Eagach, a challenging and sustained grade two scramble, or bag the peak up its steep, but technically straightforward, western slopes.
The legendary Clachaig Inn lies at the foot of the mountain and makes for a great accommodation option. It sits at the bottom of the gully of the same name, which is often used as a speedy and dangerous descent route off the mountain. Don’t do it. The Clachaig Gully is an accident blackspot and, tragically, a number of fatalities have occurred down the years.
The view from the summit back along the sinuous ridgeline of the Aonach Eagach and back towards Bidean Nam Bian’s complex form is splendid. Even better is the view to the west, where Loch Leven meets wide Loch Linnhe beyond the Ballachulish Bridge. The mountains of Ardgour rise on the other side of the Great Glen, with Garbh Bheinn looking particularly fine.
Walking routes to Sgorr nam Fiannaidh are the preserve of experienced mountaineers in winter conditions.

This was a full winter traverse of the Aonach Eagach ridge in stunning blue sky full snow conditions. Absolutely brilliant, the best ridge traverse I have done in the UK. A winter traverse of the ridge takes this route into a winter grade 3 category. Please only attempt it if you have the relative experience and equipment.

Sgorr nam Fiannaidh is the western of the two Munro summits on the infamous Aonach Eagach, above Glencoe. As the ridge is usually tackled from east to west, arriving at Sgorr nam Fiannaidh is often accompanied by a victorious feeling.
Don't be tempted to descend south into the Clachaig Gully, this is an accident blackspot that is well known to mountain rescue. Much better to continue west and drink in the views beyond the Ballachulish Bridge, over Loch Linnhe to the mountains of Ardgour and Sunart.

TOP TIP for those who aren't experienced scramblers or those who hate exposure - did you know you can hike up Sgòrr nam Fiannaidh without tackling Aonach Eagach? Check out this route if you don't fancy the ridge itself but still want to bag the Munro - komoot.com/tour/1618833848
