The church in Kirkeby was probably built in the 1200's and is dedicated to St. Clement, patron saint of sailors. As in many Danish churches you will also find 7 beautiful ship models here. Et al a model of the Flora, a whaler, which was originally built in 1794/95 in Flensburg for West Indies trips. Reconstructed into a whaler in Elmshorn in 1816, the flora now traveled to Greenland every year from 1817 to 1872. The 52-man crew came for the most part from Rømø. The ship sailed under the Danish flag, since Elmshorn belonged to Denmark at that time.

These are not Viking graves, but the grave stones especially of old captains and sailors, many from the 18th century. Nevertheless of course absolutely exciting and interesting !!
