Without water there is no life
That's the source of La Hoya, one of the main reasons why the
first settlement of San Miguel de Abona was built.
The water emerging naturally from the rocks of the mountain face, combined with a passing path - one like the one you are standing on - provided a strategically excellent place for the passing people with their animals and goods.
If you look closely, you will discover hollows carved by hand into the light tuff on the mountainside to catch the water.
The hollows in the middle height provided people with drinking water and those close to the ground were drinking troughs for the animals.
The favorable location of the La Hoya spring meant that it became an impromptu meeting place for people, because it was here that people passing by would rest and recharge their batteries.
Even if it is difficult for us to imagine, there was a constant coming and going on this path, which is so contemplative, lonely and quiet today

Beatyfull rute. One of the Best of Tenerife. In total about 14 km. It was a Creation between history of colonisation from Africa around year 1500 and till today. Mixed with the most beautifull landscape. The return to San Miguel was warm and step. Looking forward to a cold beer in the bar the last step walk this particular day ended positive.
