Between Kaiserstraße and Südallee, not far from the synagogue, lies the Südallee bastion - the red tower; a structure of the medieval and modern city wall of Trier.
The round city wall tower is a sandstone ashlar building and was built in 1543 by the municipal master builder. It was presented to the Wall as a round tower. When most of the city wall was demolished in 1875/76, the tower and a counterpart in Nordallee were deliberately preserved through intervention by the district government.

Cycling
The bastion was built between 1540 and 1543 from red sandstone blocks and integrated as a turret in the medieval city wall. Today it is one of the few remains of the city fortifications.
The bastion is located directly on the cycle path that meanders along the Südallee. Every time I pass her I have to smile as she "looks" so puzzled.
