Between Kaiserstraße and Südallee, not far from the synagogue, lies the Südallee bastion - the red tower; a structure of the medieval and modern city wall of Trier.

The round city wall tower is a sandstone ashlar building and was built in 1543 by the municipal master builder. It was presented to the Wall as a round tower. When most of the city wall was demolished in 1875/76, the tower and a counterpart in Nordallee were deliberately preserved through intervention by the district government.

The tower was damaged during World War II. In the post-war period, the damage was repaired and the tower was further uncovered.
The property was funded by the German Foundation for Monument Protection in 2012 and 2014.
