The windmill (Molen) "De Zwaan" is picturesquely situated on the western outskirts of Voorst.

In 1894, a steam-powered grain mill was built on the current site of the mill. In 1904, H. Garssen had a mill built here that came from Uithuizen (Gr.). The steam engine was then downgraded to auxiliary power. In Uithuizen, this mill had served as a hulling mill and was known there as Burema's mill.

The mill was restored in 1967 and then named after the miller's daughter Zwaantje (who also officially put the mill into use). She is the eldest in a line of eight children and is now known as Zwaan Wissink - van Mulligen.

In 1980, there was a threat of stagnation again. In 1986, the Voorster Belang took the initiative to preserve the mill for posterity. At that time, for the symbolic sum of ƒ 1,--, the new foundation Molen De Zwaan became the owner and manager of the mill. In 1989, the foundation had raised enough money to have the mill restored. In 1991, the mill was delivered in excellent condition.
The mill runs regularly; occasionally, it is used to grind animal feed.

Early 2018, the origin of the upper shaft was discovered: it was ordered in 1862 by the board of the Gnephoek polder near Oudshoorn (now part of Alphen aan den Rijn). In 1926, the mill of that polder was largely demolished and a metal windmill was placed on the mill stump (which, incidentally, did not meet the requirements). The upper shaft must have been sold in or after 1926 to have been put in Voorst some year after that.
