After the town fire of 1834, in which around three quarters of the town was destroyed, Reichenhall was generously rebuilt. In the second half of the 19th century, a health resort was established in the city, for which the brine springs were also extremely important.

The Royal Kurhaus was planned by the architect Max Littmann. After the building permit was granted in 1898/99, it was built by Littmann's father-in-law Jakob Heilmann between 1899 and 1900.

The royal spa house, built in 1900, is located directly on the royal spa garden, the terrace leads into the idyllic park with old trees and an alpine brine graduation house. The vibrant Bad Reichenhall pedestrian zone with cafés, shops and restaurants begins immediately adjacent.
