The medieval castle high above Bad Reichenhall was built around 1218. Gruttenstein Castle has served as a barracks, bulwark, accommodation for salt workers and the administrative headquarters of the Salzmaier. The facility has been privately owned since 2002. But every year there is an Easter market, a wine festival and an Advent market.

Gruttstein Castle is on the way from Bad Reichenhall to Bayerisch Gmain. You can reach them from Bad Reichenhall via various routes. Below is a small parking lot where you can stop by car. It is surrounded by beautiful meadows and you have a beautiful view of the surrounding mountains. Definitely worth a walk, no matter where you come from.
