Smaller paths lead to the Alter Hockstein, a bit more unspoiled than other vantage points and the view is worthwhile. Good opportunities for a picnic on colder days because there are corners sheltered from the wind.

Hiking

It lies on a rocky spur above the Polenztal valley. From here, you have a fantastic view down into the valley floor, without the typical tourist crowds of the main plateau. Since the path there isn't part of the classic "Painters' Way" main route, it's one of the places where you can still find a moment to yourself, even on sunny weekends. In the Middle Ages, the entire Hockstein area served as a watchtower (guard and defensive structure).
