Did you know already...
that the Teufelsgrund bridge on the Hockstein is older than the Bastei bridge?
The wooden bridge on the Hockstein, built in 1821, was replaced by a stone arch bridge in 1843. The similarity with the Bastei bridge built 8 years later is astonishing
October 6, 2020
According to an article in Bulletin 11 of the Saxon Switzerland Working Group, a wooden bridge was built in 1821 at the instigation of the Hohnstein chief forester von Carlowitz. Until then, the access led up through the Blümelgrund and the Wolfsschlucht gorge. Due to the dilapidation, the wooden bridge was replaced by a stone arch bridge in 1843, which was underpinned with a second sandstone arch around 1870.

Cool sandstone bridge with an amazing view. People who are afraid of heights should rather walk in the middle of the bridge.
