The Schopfheimer district Gersbach was in the early 18th century due to its strategic location, hub and pivot of a broad defensive front against possible attacks by French troops. Margrave Ludwig of Baden had between 1692-1701 build an extensive, purely defensive attachment system in the form of a so-called "line" of ski jumps, which extends over 200 km across the entire Black Forest. The numerous well-preserved remains of baroque Schanz and defenses in Gersbach are historically of paramount importance. A powerful hexagon jump with watch and signal tower was reconstructed in the Gewann Scherentann and opened in May 2008.
