Eleftherios Venizelos was a politician and prime minister in Greece. He is considered to be Greece's greatest politician of modern times. Under his aegis, Crete was united with Greece in 1913. As Prime Minister of Greece, he expanded the borders of the young state to its current extent during the Balkan Wars and as a result of the First World War.
