  • In April 1525, during the Peasants' War, the Helle Bunch of Odenwald farmers gathered in today's museum courtyard to engage Götz von Berlichingen as their captain. From here the peasant army then moved towards Amorbach.
The stone building from 1493 was built as a summer residence by Archbishop Berthold von Henneberg of Mainz, who was fond of hunting and building. Today the district museum is housed here, founded in 1911 by the main teacher Karl Trunzer. It houses the richest folklore collection in the area.
The founder of the district museum, Karl Trunzer (+1927), lived and worked in the Trunzer house from the first half of the 17th century. The German-Swedish composer and court music director Joseph Martin Kraus (1756 - 1792) also spent his youth here. The building served as a hospital from 1868 to 1900 and has been owned by the city since then. Today it houses the exhibition and event rooms of the district museum and the Vleugels music collection.
The entrance area of the tithe barn, built in 1627, is adorned with a coat of arms of Mainz Archbishop Georg Friedrich von Greiffenklau. After the renovation, the city archives, the local library, museum pieces from the district museum and the Narrenringmuseum are housed here.
The Belz'sche Haus is the former royal stables of the Mainz family. Stables were in the basement and servants' quarters were set up on the upper floors. Today this building houses the office of the Buchen District Museum association.
