Wijndomein Riesenberg is a partnership of enthusiasts and connoisseurs of wine, viticulture and winemaking.

Our starting point is to produce the highest possible quality wine, taking into account the terroir, soil quality, subsoil, slope, plot location and groundwater depth. The microclimate and climate prospects have been extensively studied in order to make the right grape choice.

The slight south-west slope at an altitude of 66 meters with a height difference of 6 meters between the highest and lowest point has high quality soil. A cover layer of +/- 3 meters of clay with good PH values and phosphates. The subsoil is abundantly filled with gravel, pebbles and marl. The groundwater level is 10 to 20 meters below the surface. Due to the previously described location of the plot, the traditional grape varieties Pinot Gris and Auxerrois are the most suitable grape varieties, especially because of the subsoil with gravel, pebbles and marl. With these varieties we can also join the protected designation of origin (BOB) Mergelland. With this terroir, Pinot Gris has the opportunity to keep up with and even surpass competing Pinot Gris from Germany and France.
