From here you have a beautiful view of the lock on the Zuid Willemsvaart.

The canal between 's-Hertogenbosch and Maastricht was built between 1823 and 1826. A total of 21 locks were built along the entire route to overcome the 40-meter drop between Maastricht and 's-Hertogenbosch.

The canal continues via Helmond and Weert to Maastricht and runs the last 40 kilometers through Belgium, where you can get directly to Maastricht but also connect to the Albert Canal.

The canal, which was intended as a shortcut from 's-Hertogenbosch to Maastricht, is no longer heavily used. For modern freight shipping, the lock dimensions of 90 m x 8.50 are no longer interesting (on the Maas with its 2 to 3 locks and dimensions of 240 m x 13 m, you can travel much faster).

The canal offers little variety for the leisure captain, and there is also a lack of land-based infrastructure.
