In the 60s and 70s raw gravel was mined here, hence the quarry ponds and biotope.
When the raw gravel in Bürgstadt was running low, a mining area was developed 4km further in Kirschfurt and the raw gravel was brought to Bürgstadt on the ship "MS Werner" and processed there.
