The track Traunkirchen - Ebensee was the most difficult part of the journey Linz - Ischl, so it is understandable that very early, namely 1835, a plan for an "art road" was worked out. In 1856 the rock between "Stein and Glanzenbichl" (Zwischenstein) was broken through. As in the case of railway construction, workers from the Italian provinces of the monarchy were used to build the Felsenstrasse.
