On the 440 meter high Bannholz, protected from agriculture by a forest, there are over 100 easily recognizable barrows from the Hunsrück-Eifel culture (Iron Age, late Hallstatt period).

While 2,500 years ago the burial mounds were located on the 440 meter high hill in open terrain and visible to everyone, today the entire area is overgrown with spruce monocultures. You can see the large and small burial mounds everywhere, although I liked the group of burial mounds in the western part the best, as in addition to the mounds, the surrounding ditches and ramparts can still be clearly seen, so-called grave gardens.
