Prince Eugene of Savoy (born October 18, 1663 in Paris; died April 21, 1736 in Vienna) general, political adviser and patron of the arts. He celebrated his greatest military successes against France and the Ottoman Empire. He was one of the most important Baroque builders: Belvedere, the Winter Palace on Himmelpfortgasse in Vienna and Hof Palace in Marchfeld.
The monument:
The bronze sculpture is the work of the sculptor Anton Fernkorn and Franz Pönninger and rests on a base made of ground and polished Untersberg marble. The inauguration took place on the occasion of Prince Eugen's 202nd birthday by Emperor Franz Joseph I.
