Ascending/descending path that takes you through the sand along the heath and (above) a piece of coniferous forest. The plot of coniferous forest was once larger, but has been cut down and heathland restoration was done with sod (removal of the top litter layer). This path is accessible from both sides through a gate. From above you have beautiful views, at the bottom there is a tree chapel. There are sometimes grazers (sheep). You really should take this with you on your walk, together with the viewpoint further on (komoot.nl/highlight/3027034 ).

For centuries the Venusberg was covered by an open heath, with only a few bushes and many hedges on the flanks. Due to its location on a slope, this moorland was usually slightly warmer than the surrounding area, and this resulted in a lot of specific plants and animals. Later the heath was lost to plantations of coniferous wood that served as prop for the mine or for sale. But the heather remained present in the subsoil in the form of small seeds and was given another chance by the thinning and removal of coniferous wood. Info: see photo sign "Century heathland".

One of my favorite relaxation spots in the region.

The hill is characterised by a unique landscape with a high ecological value. Hollow roads lead up to the top. In addition to the dry heathland, wet heathland can also be found. The wet biotopes at that height are unique and have been created by the impenetrable iron sandstone 'springs' that originate on the flanks. The top of the Venusberg offers a wide panorama over the valley of the Zwarte Beek. The association Natuurpunt has restored the heathland.
