It takes extraordinary commitment when two Erzgebirge residents set themselves the goal of acquiring a new Peace Bell for the Fichtelberg." Quote from Freie Presse The Peace Bell has been ringing every Sunday and public holiday from 4 p.m. on the Fichtelberg at 1,215 meters since May 2010. As a symbol of peace and international understanding, it rings toward Klínovec (Keilberg) on the Czech side (mountain and tower in the background). Gerd Schlesinger, watchman of the town of Schwarzenberg, and Jörg Eller, night watchman of the town of Schwarzenberg, initiated the project as part of the commemoration of the Peaceful Revolution. Thanks to the support of numerous friends of the project, the bell continues to ring today and enjoys numerous visitors.
