Maarten (Latin: Martinus) of Tours (Szombathely (Savaria), ca. 316 – Candes, November 8, 397), often called Saint Martin, was bishop of the city of Tours and an important founder of Catholic Christianity in Gaul. He was also one of the most popular saints in the Middle Ages because he continued to lead a simple life despite his distinguished position. His feast day falls on November 11, the day of his funeral.
