Lengstein am Ritten is the easternmost district on the high plateau: it is a small mountain village at almost 1,000 meters above sea level, which invites you to leisurely hikes and bike tours at any time of year. Here you are on the road from Lengmoos to Mittelberg, near the famous earth pyramids. Lengstein used to be much more famous: none other than Emperor Frederick Barbarossa granted the town market rights in 1177. In that year, the parish church of St. Ottilie was also mentioned for the first time. It was a time when numerous emperors and pilgrims passed through here - the Eisack Gorge was not yet passable, the most important route to Rome led over the Ritten.
