Tips

  • THE TUNNEL
In July 1891 the future tunnel was traced under the castle. This 90m long passage corresponded to the railway network development project from 1890. It made the city center of Bouillon more accessible. The intention was to connect the city with France (Sedan) via the village of Corbion. The building permit to build the route to Sugny and the tunnel was given by a royal decree in 1894. The drilling was completed on June 27, 1896. The first stone was laid on May 28, 1897. It was not until thirteen years later, on September 11, 1910, that the tunnel was inaugurated with pomp. The railway became known as "Le Bouillonnais". It facilitated cross-border exchanges that were otherwise carried out by a post office box. The three municipalities financed the construction. Their names are carved above the entrance to the tunnel.
