The Visbek Bride and Visbek Groom complexes were named after an old legend, according to which a young woman was forced by her parents to marry a rich but hated man from Visbek. As she and her entourage were led to Visbek for the wedding ceremony and saw the town in the distance, she wished she could be turned to stone rather than marry the man to whom she was promised. This is what happened, and the bride and her entourage (and the bridal carriage) were turned to stone on the spot, where they remain to this day.
