On the north-western bastion, Sankt Maximilian, stood a mill that originally served as a monastery and town mill. It was destroyed in 1702 and then rebuilt. In 1772 it was a sovereign mill. The mill was in operation until 1814. In 1826 Theodor Fliedner acquired the building to set up a water pumping station to supply the diaconal institutions. In 1889 a well was dug in the mill. After the First World War, the building temporarily served as a youth hostel. In 1930 it burned down. Since the renovation after the Second World War, the mill with extensions has served as a guest house for a Duisburg measuring instrument manufacturer and as a residential building.

The two-and-a-half-storey residential building dates from the 19th century. Spire helmet and wings are missing. The western half of the mill tower was covered with shingles.
The tower has numerous small window openings. Consoles are led around the cone on the lower third. To the right is a residential building. In the corner of this house is the entrance to the tower.
