Until 1668, Gramschatz was a branch of the parish of St. Andreas in Karlstadt (Main-Spessart district) and was looked after directly from there. This also makes it understandable that Tilman Riemenschneider not only delivered a "grace altar" commissioned by Karlstadt, but also for the Gramschatz branch in 1510. In 1863, this altar was sold to the Welfenmuseum in Hanover, where it can still be admired today.
