The two artificial bodies of water are already shown on maps from the 18th and 19th centuries. How old the lakes actually are is not yet known. Until 1983, the lakes were leased to the sport fishing club Würzburg 1919 e.V. Since 1984, the two lakes have served the then newly founded Gramschatzer Seen e.V. anglers' club as a sports facility and fish pond. From 1992 the lakes and the embankment were dredged and between 2005 and 2006 a fishing shelter was built.
