Pastures are a special form of pasture in the Rhön. Grazing on the steep slopes is very laborious and has been abandoned in many areas. When the animals no longer graze regularly, bushes and trees spread. As part of the LIFE project, the areas were cleared and now cattle and goats are taking over their traditional role again. This also means that the typical "Rhön thistles", the symbol of the Ehrenberg coat of arms, and numerous endangered animal and plant species are returning. (The Ehrenberg brochure)
