This trail is a portion of the proposed European Continental Divide Trail (ECDT, Europäischer Wasserscheideweg) along the North Sea - Baltic Sea Continental Divide (Wasserscheide). To the west of the plateau, water drains to the North Sea. To the east, water drains to the Baltic Sea.
