The town hall was built of red brick on the north side of the market square in the Dutch Renaissance style. The first building from 1642 had to be demolished after 230 years due to poor foundations. The facade of the previous building was recreated for the new town hall built on the same site in 1872. The current head of Glückstadt's town hall is the non-partisan mayor Rolf Apfeld.

Glückstadt has actually had a town hall since 1642. However, today's building was not erected until 1873/74. The previous building, an attractive late Renaissance building, had to be demolished beforehand due to dilapidation. The architecture of the facade is a replica of the old town hall and thus largely corresponds to the historical model.
