The former naval garrison church, inaugurated in 1911, is built in the Baltic Gothic style. The church itself, the hall, the rectory and the sexton house form a self-contained building complex. As a special feature of the church, the altar, the pulpit and the organ with choir loft were arranged one above the other in the sanctuary.

The single-nave neo-Gothic naval garrison church from 1911 with an indented choir with a straight end was built according to plans by naval garrison building inspector Stock, influenced by Kaiser Wilhelm II. The church was consecrated in 1911. The church, the hall, the rectory and the sexton's house form a unified ensemble.
The garrison church for the marines and their families granted the Evangelical Lutheran congregation of Alt-Cuxhaven hospitality. In 1948 it became the parish church. In 1950 it was given the name St. Petri. In the 1960s the church was renovated and the chancel redesigned.
