The church is first mentioned in a document in 1302. It is built as a single-nave church of brick in the Gothic style. The building with semicircular apse was expanded in 1611 to its present size: in the choir room ribbed vault, in the ship wooden ceiling. The half-timbered style church tower is 17.70 meters high and dates back to the 17th century. The larger bell was cast in 1332 and is the oldest church bell in the district of Lüneburg. The smaller bell dates from 1963. Inside there are several grave slabs. The pulpit dates from the Renaissance. The colored windows were donated in the 16th century by Uelz councilmen and merchants and depict biblical scenes and family crests. The organ was built in 1968 by the company Eule (Bautzen).

Particularly worth seeing is the altarpiece from the beginning of the 16th century, which shows in its central part the crucifixion of Christ. In addition, there are figures of an altar from the 1490s in a niche. As a special feature, the church has a burial ground in a southern extension of the noble Estorff family.

The history of the Church is linked to the family of Estorff from the beginning. Since 1313 Veerßen is an independent municipality, but she did not receive her own pastorate until 1961. Until then she was a pastor with the monastery church in Oldenstadt.
