Between 1930 and 1933, one of the most beautiful works of Croatian trail construction was created here: the Premužić Trail, named after the forestry engineer Ante Premužić, who led the planning and construction. In just three years, the path was created across the most impassable karst terrain of Velebit – and entirely without blasting, but only with carefully stacked dry stone walls. The result is astonishing to this day. The path hardly climbs, but rather winds in gentle switchbacks through a tangle of rock formations that would otherwise be difficult to traverse on foot.
