"The porphyry fan near Mohorn-Grund is probably one of the best-studied, most photographed and most frequently visited geological outcrops in Saxony. An information board from the "Geological Open-Air Museum" also explains to laypeople the volcanic formation of the rock here. A quarry opened in the 19th century "In the 19th century, about 40 meters wide and 22 meters high, the "quartz-poor porphyry" became visible, which covers large parts of the Tharandter Forest as a ceiling effusion." - osterzgebirge.org/gebiets/11_1.htmlI really like the route to the open-air museum. And the place is really amazing too.
Always serves as an excellent place to take a break or simply as a worthwhile destination.
