Very nice hiking area with steep and somewhat difficult climbs, but great views that make you want "more". And catering is provided in Jetrichovice.

On Sunday we went again on a sporty three-country hike to the Wasserkuppe (highest mountain in Hesse). After a short stop at the Fulda spring, we still had great views in all directions on the summit, despite the low ☁️ ceiling and what felt like 🌪️ strength 8. On the way back we crossed the border to Bavaria again and after a bit of searching we found the geographical tri-border region hidden in the former Speer area. 🏞🧐 A successful end to the weekend - we'd love to come back to Rhön !! 👍🏞

On the occasion of the upcoming anniversary of the reunification, we went to the Rhön triangle with good friends. We were accommodated in the well-run Pension Dreiländereck (pension-dreilaendereck.de/startseite)
On the first day, pensioner and historian Jens Graf invited to a very interesting circular hike in the former restricted border area. The many anecdotes and excerpts from life in Birx and the surrounding area as well as the operational processes of the immediate border security let us experience GDR history up close again.
After completing the tour, we went to the UNESCO Biosphere Reserve Rhön to the black moor. Here you can learn a lot of information about one of the most important high moors in Central Europe on a 3km circular route and of course enjoy the wonderful landscape and view towards Bavaria / Thuringia / Hesse

Due to the expected class of weather conditions, we went to one of the probably most beautiful viewpoints in the entire Eastern Ore Mountains - the Wieselstein (Loučná) ⛰🔭. The round is not too long and partly leads over the paved long-distance cycle path 23. Briefly sweating only comes to the summit on the last part of the ascent. Once you have arrived at the top, if the weather is right, you will be rewarded with a great all-round view of the entire Ore Mountains and into the Bohemian Basin. The actual summit area is located in a nature reserve and is therefore no longer freely accessible. As a way back you can either choose the ascent route or the circular route below the Wieselstein (see Part 2). Finally we went past the radio tower Vlčí hora back to the parking lot. Unfortunately the Garmin ⌚ rated my break at the summit as a medical emergency and ended the tour on its own - hence part 2. 🤷‍♂️😂

On this day, with the best weather conditions, the last Stoneman stage was on the plan.🌞🌤 From Sexten we first took the signposted bike path towards Moos. Shortly after Moos we turned left into Sextental. Along the valley station "Drei Zinnen The Crime" and the Caravanpark Sexten we do not gain quite as sportily as we do on days 1 and 2, but we steadily climb in altitude and then turn left over a ridge to the Seikofel - Nemes biotope. Stop here and enjoy the amazing natural and mountain panoramas - it's worth it! ⛰🏞🤩 Slightly below the ridge of the Costa Della Spina, we continue to shimmy until we descend over a great forest / meadow and root trail to the right in the direction of Dosoledo. After passing through this beautiful little mountain village, we went with a short but crisp stitch through the valley of the Torrente Padola to our 4th and penultimate checkpoint in Padola. The Italian serenity around lunchtime is of course infectious 😉 and so we treated ourselves to a ☕ on the market square to enjoy the view in the best weather. 🌞⛰ That was not the end of the tour. The crisp ascent to the Kreuzbergsattel and uphill section to the Rotwandwiesenhütte is still waiting for us. 🧐 We bit quite a bit on the section towards Kreuzbergsattel when the sun was now fully applied. 🥵🥵 On the last section for the Rotwandwiesenhütte you can get enough of the ⛰ panoramas in all their different facets. Proud of the work you have done over the last few days, you get your obligatory card clippers at the 5th checkpoint.💪🚵‍♂️⛰ A long serpentine then descends to the Roland Stauder at the Stoneman information point to receive the coveted stone.🥉
